That's a vinegar barrel. For the best vinegar, they move it from barrel to barrel every year, letting it age in different types of wooden barrels.

The barrels have to be open to the air so that the vinegar can breath. They put a doily over it to protect it from bugs and dust and stuff.

After our train ride to Modena and the Ferrari and vinegar tours, we took a train from Modena back to Bologna, another train to Florence, another train to Terontola, and finally another train to Perugia, and then a taxi to our apartment. It was a long travel day and we were glad to see this our apartment. We have the rooms on the right on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors.

When we arrived, there were Perguian chocolates waiting for us. Before the Amber Knox trial, Perugia was most famous for its chocolates.

We had a late (8:30 - by our standards, early by local standards) dinner. Erik's started with a pineapple gelato served in a pineapple.
